Karen Bonnie
Ruidoso, New Mexico

Karen paints her subjects with expression that can only be learned from a lifetime of shared experience with them. “When I paint animals, it is as important to me to capture their movement, emotion, and their individual essence as it is to get their structure correct. The viewer should feel a connection with the subject”.

“I do a detailed charcoal and dry brush drawing, then use glazing, oil paint and oil bars to achieve the desired result, leaving just a trace of the original drawing showing through so the viewer is able to understand something of the process.”

Karen was the recipient of the Ralph “Tuffy" Berg Award at the 2004 CM Russell Show and Sale in 2004.
